We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of: Community Health Advisor for an anticipated USAID-funded integrated health project in Mozambique. This position will be based in Zambézia.

Description:

Community Health Advisor will provide management and technical oversight of community health and technical assistance (TA) activities for maternal newborn and child health (MNCH), nutrition, and immunization.  The Community Health Advisor will report directly to the Integrated Health Service Delivery Technical Director and work in tandem with other technical and operational staff to support efficient and effective project implementation.  This position will take a leadership role in ensuring the Activity meets stated community health service delivery goals, quality standards, and reporting requirements. The Community Health Advisor will also coordinate among USAID, donors, other health implementing partners (IPs), and numerous Government of the Republic of Mozambique (GRM) institutions and representatives, at the district, provincial and national level, for community health activities. The proposed candidate must fulfill the position requirements detailed below.

Job Summary/Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical direction of the activities related to evidence-based maternal newborn and child health (MNCH), nutrition, and immunization, for community-level interventions, based on local and global best practices.
  • In close alignment and coordination with the SBC Advisor, provide strategic leadership on community health policy and programming in ways that are sensitive and beneficial and in harmony with other community health projects and coordinating mechanisms.
  • Contribute to program/project design, implementation, learning, and monitoring and evaluation through active collaboration with project teams and GRM.
  • Lead the day to day technical and operational activities of community health activities.
  • Lead the development and refinement of community health capacity strengthening and quality improvement project inputs (trainings/mentoring/coaching, tools, guidelines, and standards).
  • Build the MNCH, nutrition, and immunization technical capacity of community teams through technical updates, trainings, exchange visits, literature sharing, and mentorship.
  • Support the Technical Director and collaborate with other Advisors to ensure that all areas of the project are integrated and maximize the use of available project resources, and that community service delivery approaches are supported through an aligned SBC strategy.
  • Contribute to the learning agenda by identifying information gaps in community health that could be filled by secondary data analysis, literature reviews, field testing of new approaches, and collaborative learning events, and lead technical inputs on learning activities related to community health.
  • Maintain diplomatic and high-quality interactions and clear and consistent communications internally and with partners.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or its international equivalent in a relevant field such as medicine, public health, or social sciences. Clinical background with public health training is strongly preferred.
  • At least eight years of experience coordinating or implementing community health services or providing technical assistance for MNCH, nutrition, and/or immunization programming at the community level, with at least six of those years working in the Mozambique health system.
  • Deep knowledge of the landscape for MNCH, nutrition, and immunization programming in Mozambique, including GRM and USAID priorities.
  • Ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with a broad range of public and private sector counterparts, donors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Excellent knowledge of Mozambique district and community-level structures.
  • Experience leading moderate to large size teams of health professionals.
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and English language oral presentation skills.
  • Experience working with a USG-funded program is desired.
