Position Context
As part of our team expansion, we are looking for a dynamic and motivated Junior Agronomistwho is passionate about sustainable agriculture and willing to work in a flexible and challenging environment. The selected candidate will work directly with farmers across several provinces in Mozambique, promoting sustainable agricultural practices and contributing to the implementation of impactful projects developed by A Transição Verde.
Key Objectives
Contribute to the development and implementation of agricultural and environmental components within A Transição Verde’s projects, with a strong focus on regenerative practices and climate-resilient production models.
Expected Outcomes
- Farmers trained to adopt sustainable farming systems, including agroecological, agroforestry, and soil conservation techniques.
- Establishment of demonstration plots and knowledge-sharing networks among farmers.
- Promotion of agricultural diversification and value addition to local production, ensuring income generation.
Key Responsibilities
Working closely with the technical team, the Junior Agronomist will be responsible for:
- Supporting the planning, execution, and monitoring of agricultural activities in the field.
- Conducting regular technical visits to farmers and farmer associations across multiple provinces.
- Delivering training sessions using participatory methods such as Farmer Field Schools (FFS).
- Assisting in the establishment and management of agroforestry nurseries, seed banks, and other community resources.
- Supporting the implementation of efficient irrigation systems and water conservation techniques.
- Contributing to the preparation of technical reports and project documentation.
- Supporting data collection and field assessments.
- Ensuring the integration of environmentally friendly practices in all agricultural interventions.
Candidate Requirements
- Academic background in Agronomy, Agroecology, Sustainable Agriculture, or related fields (technical level or university degree).
- Knowledge of agroecological practices, soil and water conservation, agroforestry systems, and horticulture.
- Willingness to work in rural areas for extended periods.
- Flexibility to travel frequently across provinces.
- Strong adaptability to different cultural contexts.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, team spirit, organizational capacity, and ability to work independently.
- Fluent in Portuguese (spoken and written); reasonable proficiency in English is essential; basic knowledge of local languages (such as Changana) will be considered an advantage.

- Residence in Maputo is preferred, as the main office is located in Costa do Sol.
